Famous Beer Baron Grave Sites...
Ever wonder what the family grave sites for some of the most famous Beer Baron's looked like.

Well thanks to Famous Graves and Tragedy Sites - death2ur.com - we get a from-afar glimpse of beer baron legends Frederick Pabst, Joseph Schlitz, Valentin Blatz, Frederick Miller, Theodore Hamm, Jacob Schmidt, Gottlieb Heileman, and Jacob Leinenkugel at eternal rest.

When you spend as much time drinking beer as I can... you have to know your roots and who to tip your hat to at last call.

Boat-Raced...
Just noticed something at Urban Dictionary that had some green and gold flavor added to a definition of the phrase boat-raced... and it made me laugh.
    2.   boat raced To be beaten very badly at something, especially in such a fashion that you were behind from the start and never had a chance. Comes from the Boat Race, an annual rowing competition between Oxford and Cambridge, in which the first side to get ahead can move to the middle of the river (where the current is fastest) and is almost never overtaken thereafter.

"Chicago got boat raced by Green Bay, 37-3."

Agree with your analysis... fun to watch regardless. This was disturbing to read in an article to read by Eric Baranczyk of the Green Bay Press Gazette:

"I thought receiver James Jones at one point in the first half had just a horses-crap block. There were about 12 minutes left in the second quarter and on a run play to the outside he just didn’t block, stood there and watched the play. I hope that’s not, ‘I’m getting $9 million dollars and I don’t want to block anymore’. Hopefully that’s just a preseason game or whatever, and not a sign of something to come." Here's the full article, it's under "Extra Points": http://packersnews.greenbaypressgazette.com/article/20110814/PKR07/110814036

For $9M, Jones better not be taking any plays off, even if it is preseason!

On the flip side, I'm HOPEFUL that we're settled-in with our key special team performers of Mathsay, Crosby and Goode.

So BK is going to the Chargers game in November. Good choice; San Diego has lovely beaches (if not much of any sports success).

As a little bit of trivia, the hottest game in Packers history was when they went down there in 1978. 100 degrees at kickoff, but we won handily (24-3).

BeerScout,

How did you acquire your game tix for SD? My club (Packer's Fan Club of Hemet) is trying to get tix for our road trip, but we're being told that we'd have to buy a 2-game pack....what the heck? They pull that crap with Raiders' games, but we've never had to do this for a Packers game.

Any tips would be appreciated. We're trying to obtain approx. 30-40 tix.

Thanks!

Presagin' Packer Prognosticators...

Q:  Will the Packers win tonight on Thursday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints?
A:  It is decidedly so.

Magic Gold G-Ball

Finally! The NFL football season is back with our Green Bay Packers taking on the New Orleans Saints on the Thursday night opener. Forget about the Saints and their team off-season workouts - really forget about it, unless you think that players running around at half-speed without the coaches screaming at them about their mistakes somehow makes you better - I don't.

Packers offense is better than the Saints offense, the Packers defense is better than the Saints defense. The Packers are better than the Saints. Expect the score to be something like Packers 31 Saints 24 and it's only that close because the Saints will be the team to score last.

Spew Out Speak Off...

Packers March All Over Saints 42-34

Great game to start the season... Packers jump out early with TD catches by Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson, keep the pressure on with a TD pass to rookie Randall Cobb, give up a 72 yard punt return for a TD by Darren Sproles, then bounce back with a TD run by James Starks and a spectacular 108 yard kickoff return by Randall Cobb, toss in another TD run by John Kuhn and then finally, finally, stopping Drew Brees and the Saints cold on the 1 yard line with no time left to get their first win of the season.

Awesome! Buhmp-buhmp ba-da-da-buhmp Go Pack Go!!!!

Hey Mike, We should throw some love to the Buccaneers to beat-down the Lions too, though you would think that the Bucc's don't need any extra help after the Lions kept them out of the playoffs last year and allowed the eventual SB-XLV Champion Packers in...   BK

Hey Vikingscrusher, You must have heard the news that his shoulder is bruised, but when you watch the replay where his arm was stuck between the tackle being made, makes you wonder how he didn't break his fore-arm or wrist. I don't think the Packers have to reveal the real extent of his injury until this Wednesday's injury report. Right now, I'll take the Packers at their word that it's just a bruised shoulder and he'll play this week at Carolina.   BK

During one of BeerScout's forays into San Diego this summer, he made it down to The BeachWood bar and using a pretty cool app on his iPhone (and available for others phones and devices) called Microsoft Photo Synth was able to do his classic spin around in place to take panorama pictures of both inside the bar and up on it's deck.

You can click on either picture to see a larger image of the bar that's associated with Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, and you should make sure you have this app downloaded onto your handheld device so you can impress your friends and family with some amazing photographs.

So this week the Packers are up against a rookie QB who may choose to take off running when the defensive pass rush in on. Spew Out Speak Off...

      Packers Outlast Panthers 30 - 23

The Green Bay Packers start out slow due to a fumble on the kick-off return by Randall Cobb, go 3-and-out on their first true possession, find themselves down 13-0 shortly after and thenre finally responding with a 1yd TD run by FB John Kuhn and a big 49yd TD catch by Greg Jennings to open the 3rd quarter to give them their 1st lead of the game at 14-13. Three consecutive FG's by Mason Crosby put the Pack up by 10 points, and then the really big 84yd TD toss to Jordy Nelson to basically seals-the-deal and the Packers move to 2-0 in the NFC North by outlasting the Cam Newton led Carolina Panthers 30-23 in a game that left most cheeseheads cursing into their beers all game long.

Next up is the "banged-up Bears" (that's their own words excuse for losing to the Saints yesterday) at Soldier Field in Chicago next Sunday afternoon led by the NFL leading Sack-Taker Jay Cutler.

It's about to be 3-0 Go Pack Go! 3-0 Go Pack Go!

@Boz - I listen to McCarren on the radio and put up with the delay. I wish I could get it in real time.

dfarmer

Hey dfarmer (+ others), you might have to go back to using Rabbit Ears with a digital converter to get the sync working between Packers TV and Packers Radio. My experience is that cable tv is several seconds behind the ol' rabbit ears, or figure out a way to run the radio signal through some delay similar to the tv-dvr delay.  BK
________________________________________

Packer Paul and Vikingcrusher:   We can't stand the TV analysts at our place either (unless it's Buck and Aikman). So, while watching the game, we always turn the volume down on the big screen, and listen to the local radio station. They broadcast the Packer games with Wayne Larrivee and Larry McCarren as analysts. The timing is off, from audio to video, but it beats listening to the tv clowns...

Anyone know if you can listen to Larrivee and McCarren over the net for free?

Boz

Hey Boz, you've described the ideal Packer game watching experience, TV volume down, Wayne and Larry cranked up... I've subscribed to the NFL.Com's radio package for all NFL games, where it's delayed enough that you have to dvr delay the TV action by a few seconds to get them both sync'd up to each other... otherwise for 3 hours of radio Packers pre-game + 2 hours of post-game coverage, you can hit WDUZ - http://www.thefan1075.com/ for internet radio.   BK
________________________________________

@Packer Paul - Aw come on, we were playing a 2-14 team that everyone expected us to demolish. Fox wasn't going to send Buck and Aikman to cover that.

@Chica - I'm not sure it's a good idea for Cam Newton to follow in the footsteps of Mike Vick. Unless he wants to walk off the field spitting blood.

Mike

*whew!* Sounds like Nick Collins is gonna be ok. What a roller-coaster of a game. Cam Newton = the new Michael Vick. Spew Off Spew Off...

     ...Packers - Bears Week Edition

It's only the 3rd week of the NFL season and we're back to a week full of Packer - Bears related spewing.

Fans of the Packers have to look in the review mirror to remember all the fun from the end of last season. The paraphrased Lovie quote of "we have to keep the Packers out of the playoffs and we can do that by beating them" in the first week of January... didn't happen. Then we had the ""To have to beat the Packers to get to the Super Bowl - our ultimate goal - is the way it should be. We embrace that." Embrace it all you want, the Packers took the NFC Championship game at Soldier Field and then won Super Bowl XLV to rub duh Bears faces in the frozen dirt a little more than necessary.

OK, retract that, it was necessary.

So what if duh Bears have been plotting their revenge the day the NFL schedules came out, not going to matter. Packers were the better team last year, they're the better team this year and even with S Nick Collins out, the Packers are going to roll the "Banged-Up Bears" (that's their words, not mine) for the 3rd time in a row.

It's Packers - Bears week... Buhmp-buhmp ba-da-da-buhmp! Go Pack Go!!!!

Presagin' Packer Prognosticators...

Q:  Will Bears QB Jay Culter be as effective...errh, non-effective against the Pack in this Sunday's match-up as he was last year in the NFC Championship game?
A:  Outlook Good.

Q:  Will duh Chicago Bears beat the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field this Sunday?
A:  Outlook Not So Good.

Magic Gold G-Ball

Now it's time for the NFL's longest running rivalry to re-new itself for 2011 and it's hard not to look back at the 2 games that happened last January. Will this game be as low-scoring as those two games? Probably not. We've seen the yards that the Packers defense has been giving up so far, so you can expect duh Bears to try to pile on some more. Am I worried? No. For the 3rd game in a row, the Packers have the better Offense, the Packers have the better defense, heck, the Packers have the better team. Our guess deep-rooted analysis is that the Packers continue their roll and shoot-down duh Bears 34-17.

Speak Out Spew Off...

Packers Bounce duh Bears 27-17

Oh what a fun game that was... Watching the game in The Joynt, razzing a dedicated Bears fan in orange who was just as obnoxious as the rest of us Packer fans, until the end (ha-ha-ha), watching TE Jermichael Finley come alive against duh Bears defense for 3 TD's. You had S Morgan Burnette with 2 picks of errant passes by Bears QB Jay Cutler, you had 2 sacks by Pack DL Jarius Wynn, and then you had LB Brian Urlacher stepping in front of Pack QB Aaron Rodgers for the interception and the big play he always seems make in Packer-Bear games. Then you had duh Bears "Smarter than the average Packer" punt return play that left your jaw hanging... until the holding call was announced.

Simply put, a classic Packers vs Bears game in Chicago, with the Pack coming out on top 27-17 and putting themselves atop the NFL North at 3-0.

Today's activities were sponsored each in part by Torpedo Extra IPA, The Joynt, and Bass Ale. Buhmp-buhmp ba-da-da-buhmp! Go Pack Go!

HEY BEERKID
Q: HOW MANY VIKING FANS DOES IT TAKE TO CHANGE A LIGHT BULB???
A: THEY REFUSE TO CHANGE IT... THEY JUST ARGUE FOR 5 WEEKS ABOUT WHETHER THE OLD ONE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
{pretty sure I made this one up}   GO PACK GO!   Can't wait to see the PACK destroy the Rams on my Birthday 10/16

JONNY C

Hey Johnny, I'll take your 1 light bulb joke and raise you 3...
Q: How many Viking fans does it take to change a light bulb?
A: One, but it takes a truckload of light bulbs.

Q: How many Metrodome Technicians does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None - The Metrodome looks better in the dark.

Q: How many wannabe Vikings players does it take to change a light bulb?
A: 10. One to change it and 9 to nod and say "Oh yeah. I can do that."

Good game. I'm beginning to feel that 12-4 or 13-3 is very realistic. The Falcons, Giants, Lions, and Chargers are the only opponents that might give us trouble.

What's shakin', BeerKid?! Another classic rumble of the league's most historic rivals....with the proper outcome. Living in the Twin Shitties, I can say that the only thing approaching the joy of this victory, is watching the Queen's fans suffer through another "historic" moment of Purple patheticness.

Glad to see you still hitting the Joynt....and presuming you got "drunk on Water Street!"

Scott - "Formerly Drunk On Water Street"

Hey Scott, you presume correctly, The Joynt isn't really set up for a Packers Game Day but then, it's one of the few bars that consistently pulls me in for a beer... repeatedly.

Cutler was asked today whether he could make it through a full season taking the number of hits he's taken through the first two games. Not surprisingly, he did't know, which is pretty much par for the course:
    "I don't know," Cutler said. "I don't know."
Hey, Jay Cutler is a good teammate. He doesn't throw anyone under the bus.

Later in the press conference, Cutler would say this:
"Look, you all know I'm a total c*nt and a quitter. My f*cking vagina hurts right now and I don't even know if I want to play against the Packers. If things get tough, I'll probably fake an injury and sit out the second half. Okay? And look, if these shitbags could block, I might throw for 500 yards. But hey, let's face it - they can't and neither can I."

Presagin' Packer Prognosticators...

Q:  Are the Packers about to humiliate the Broncos this Sunday at Lambeau Field?
A:  It Is Certain.

Q:  Seriously???
A:  Without A Doubt.

Magic Gold G-Ball

The Packers are facing off against the Denver Broncos and this might be the trap-game that everyone watches out for. Fear not. The Donkeys might have a rising star with LB Von Miller, but they also have some fallen stars who won't be playing this week. What's that you say, the Pack won't have RB Ryan Grant and RT Brian Bulaga either... Not going to matter, and this includes Tim Tebow or No-Tebow.

It's only NFL week 4, but 'm getting tired of repeating this, the Packers Offense is better, the Pack's Defense is better, the overall team is better than what the Bronco's can put on the field of play. There may be a "Any Given Sunday" rule out there somewhere, but not this Sunday in Green Bay. Packers win 38-12.
