Speak Out Spew Off...

It's been almost 20 hours (Update: Now almost 45 hours; Now over 114 hours) and BF is still retired... maybe this time he means it. Although you really can't rule out anything when it comes to his interest and desire to keep playing football.

BK...nervously checking ? So happy the ticker is running. OMG, as much as we love Brett Farve #4 QB for the Green Bay PACKERS for all those years? (Forget the anger, forget the politics in GB, I gave him a year as a Jet, sure I watched, or checked Sportscenter Highlights. Didn't look right on the east coast.) But..... a Queenie?

OMG. I was down in southern Wi a week ago, and the Packer fans down there said, "SURE, we wanna see him as a VIKING" To which I said, "How about if he was a BEAR?" Then they went off. WOW, geographically speaking. Might be interesting for you to do some poll here to that. Even I? if Brett would wanna say I am not retiring and I am gonna be a LION?

Lemondrop

Hey Lemondrop, not nervously checking, just letting the hours tick away while half-expecting BF to change his mind sometime soon... if and when his body heals. Already T-Jack for the Vikes has hurt his knee... tick tock, tick tock...  BK

Brett Favre Is A True Packer After All...

Well the news just broke that Brett Favre has called Vikings head coach Brad Childress and announced that he is staying retired. Here's the link to the story http://blogs.startribune.com/vikingsblog/?p=3077. Just wanted to say that if this is true, that after today he is staying retired, then Brett Favre by yanking the chains of the Vikqueens all off-season long, messing with their minds, screwing around with their fans and leading them on and on and on... by gawd, Brett Favre Is A True Packer After All...

Spew Off Speak Out...

It's still slow-going here, well the drinking term we used to use for times like this was "The Slow Club", but at least we are getting close to the opening of Packers Training Camp where we can get back to revving things up a little bit around here at Packer Palace. It's so close I'm finally starting to get a taste of it...

BeerKid - Always Pack 4 Life!

o, BeerKid! Finally, camp is about to begin. Several predictions and a comment:  DeShawn Wynn will be take the third spot, and will be an important part of our offense in critical third down moments. Jermichael Finley will begin to silence critics, and will start to remind us of Keith Jackson and/or Antonio Gates. (Matchup hell for defenses!)

I think you have begun to embellish on my name with your current tag....which is fine by me, because we is what we is....Wisconsin boys who enjoy a cocktail or five.

Ya know it finally came to me after several Gray's Bully Porter soaked in that the whole B.F. problem started when Mike Holmgren left. We have seen the clips of the two of them talking on the sidelines or headset and it was very clear who was in charge. When Mike Sherman came in, he treated B.F. as an accomplished old veteran, dismissing him from off season team events.

When B.F. finally figured out he had to prove himself to McCarthy and get serious guess what? The team finally got to within an interception away from the Super Bowl! Mike and Ted wanted B.F. to get serious the next season he retired and the Packers moved on and went with Aaron Rodgers. Now I have heard a story from the lips of Paul Horning that when B.F. was in the NFL substance abuse program he continued drinking it up all day long (you gotta start in the morning) at a charity golf event and dinner and them lie about it in a interview with Paul that evening.

I don't necessarily hold that against him but you do wonder when if ever he isn't bullsh*tting. Look at the Official B.F. website about how he was retiring from the J-E-T-S and quote "But as good as (Jets GM) Mike Tannenbaum has been to me, I could never bring myself to do it. I know I won't do it. If I did, I'd be putting the Jets in a tough spot, because I know they can't release me." The heading on his website? "FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME."

Which game are you talking about?

Alright, I scrambled out to go grab some Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale from Whole Foods and got back in time for the 109th pick of TJ Lang, then shit went haywire for 30 minutes, popped open the 2nd bottle (drinking small bottles today vs. the large bottles of Ruination IPA consumed yesterday) and now everything's back on track and we're about to get into the heaviest part of the Packers draft today, 4 picks in the next 2 rounds. There is not a lot of info flowing out from the Packers so far this summer, but it seems to me that the team has added some key players while losing little. I am a Tauscher fan, so I hate to see him go out this way, but hopefully we have the studs to step in a fill the hole. With a little competition and some additional games, some of the linemen will get their chance to step up.

Defense is a much bigger question mark. How quickly will the move to 3-4 happen? Will Capers get the job done? Are the new defensive players as good as everyone thinks? Will Kampman be a fit at linebacker? Will Barnett return to form?

There are a lot of questions, but the Packers are well on their way to becoming a very strong team again. They may be just a player or two from total success, or they might be a surprise this year.

I am really looking forward to this season and am not worrying too much about players that are no longer there.

Hey Schmitty, you got it right, team first, any players come second...  BK

To everybody who hates Thompson for "running Favre out of town:"

First of all, you should blame the entire team including the executive committee. Don't think for a minute that the whole management team was not in agreement on such a HUGE and far-reaching decision for the franchise. Yes, Thompson and Murphy run the football side of the operation. But Favre crosses wayyyy over into the business side due to the revenue he generates, so you know every other exec there had to sign off on it.

Regarding this ridiculous "ran him out of town" nonsense. Favre was mad because the new regime didn't kiss his butt like the old one did. Period. Yes, they wanted an answer on his annual retirement waffling before that draft... doesn't that make sense? And if you really think not hiring Steve Mariucci and not letting Favre pick the players is "running somebody out of town," you're crazy.

The Favre of today is not the same guy we all cheered for a decade ago. He acts like a spoiled rich kid, and I have no intention of following him to ridiculous extremes like rooting for the Queens.

Ruppert

Hey Ruppert, yup, both GM Ted Thompson and HC Mike McCarthy got the clearance to move on from Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy... who could've demanded that BF not only stay on the roster, but even have his starting QB position back. Instead BF was sent packing and TT and MM received contract extensions.  BK

According to the Star Tribune, Favre is supposed to let the Vikings know his decision by 30JUN. Seeing him in a Vikings uniform will be strange but if he can still throw well (and cut down on the INTS), I'll be glad to see him in the Purple. Regardless if he is or isn't, I still see the Vikes successfully defending the NFC North title.

It's the thoughts and musings of going through a JC Penny's Catalog from the 1970's and captioning some of the funnier clothing designs that era offered... and would result in ass-kickings for those that chose to wear some this gawd-awful stuff, for an example, check out the wonderful models sporting the awesome green 'n gold design and stylish hair-do's. I'm pretty sure these 2 were at one of those Lambeau Field games I went to as a young kid... and most of the ass kicking is deservedly reserved and directed towards the guy's outfits. Hey Scott... I really like how Jennings and his agent set the deal up to be just a 3 year extension and with pretty decent money now... I'm a big believer is shrinking the years of current contracts and setting them up with lots of roster-type bonuses to make everything as flexible as possible when dealing with the NFL Salary Cap. Favre obviously has some personal issues with authority. That played pretty well in Green Bay while Holmgren and Wolfe were the head honchos, but it was clearly grating to him to have to listen to McCarthy and Thompson. That was all part of the will he - won't he nonsense for the past 5-6 years. He might still have a few games left in him, but last time I looked, he has not taken his team to a Superbowl in a decade.

Bobby O'Shea

Hey Bobby... good lord, it's not that dry of an off-season news cycle to watch 10 minutes of BF crying about that original retirement again... 'though of some you might.   BK
___________________________________

I'm tired of all of the Brett Bashing. He didn't get pulled over with a pound of coke; he didn't beat his wife and get reinstated. He's just been undecided about playing. He knows he's getting old, he knows he should retire, but he just can't hang it up because he loves the game. Is that a #*$&(!)NG crime?!? It's the media that is creating this circus. this 24x7 all Favre, all the time crap.

After his two month 2008 retirement, he would have preferred to stay with the Packers, but TT and MM wouldn't have it. A battle of Egos. Yes, Brett had an ego too, but so did TT and MM. It don't want to rehash old crap... what happened happened. Favre wanted to finish as packer, as the starting QB, but that wasn't an option for him. The only option TT would allow was the Jets.

Now Favre is in control of his destiny and the Vikings are the perfect fit for him. The Packers do not own him. Sorry, but players switch teams all the time in the NFL. How is it that it's ok for other players, but not Brett?

Think of this, after TT gets fired, will he have the right to go look for a job with the Lions or Bears? If we're going to say that Brett can't join the Vikings then we better hold that same standard to every former Packer player. In other words, let's burn all of our Darren Sharper and Ryan Longwell Memorabillia. Oh yeah... and Reggie White too, because he retired and then decided to come back as a Panther of all things.

Get over it... root for Aaron!

Iowa Pack Fan

Hey Iowa Pack Fan, well said, thanks for stopping by, and I agree, root for the Packers. Go Pack!   BK
___________________________________

One more thing... If we choose to despise Brett and call him a traitor for going to another team within the division, then we should hate on every packer player that has at one time played for the Vikings, Bears, or Lions (quite a few of them) and call them traitors as well. Heck, let's hate all players that ever switched teams. players should be with one team for life.

Iowa Pack Fan

Hey Iowa Pack Fan, it's a little hard for players, well, you're talking about star players being on one team for the life of their career and well, I don't know, it's something to stride for I suppose but it's way too impractical and limiting. Players should obvious avoid going to bitter rivals if possible, but I guess some of us are just a little peeved that BF seems to be seeking out the one team that would exact revenge on his old team... but I'm now starting to actually look forward to all the sniping and fun that this new NFL Football Season will bring to the NFC North this year. Remember the motto - "Forward".  BK
