Me and Mr. Walker

TCB - Contributing Writer for Packer Palace.

A good friend of mine and big time football fan, we'll call him Seth, once said that it's not a sport if judges are involved. It took me a while to understand what he meant, because it puts definitely athletic events like figure skating out of the realm of sport. However, these many years later I have to agree with him. The less subjective judgment to determine the outcome the better. That's why hockey is undoubtedly a sport while figure skating is an impressive athletic event but maybe not quite a sport. However, if those figure skaters had to throw a ball in a hoop while being chased around by gap toothed Canadians in pads, they'd be a lot closer.

We mention this only because for the second (or maybe third) week in a row the Packers won games where, by many standards, they did not play well or at least did not play well for much of the game. I'm sure the Russian judge would have docked the green and gold a significant number of points for good bounces and favorable calls in these three games, but as we keep on saying, a win is a win is a win. The NFL season really gets hot from here on out. The bye weeks are over. Six regular season games remain. Only two NFC teams (Atlanta and Philly) seem locks to make the playoffs. All sixteen games count equally, but it SEEMS like these ones count more. For the Packers, we finally get to see exactly what kind of team they are. In the next two weeks, they get the Rams at home on Monday night, and then play the following Sunday at Philadelphia. Their main rivals in the NFC North, the Vikings, get Jacksonville at home and then play at Chicago the next week. It wouldn't surprise me and Mr. Walker one bit of the team leading after these next two games wins the division. These are big, big games folks. Go Packers!

Let's hear it for football referees!  Those charming middle aged lawyers and bankers who take time out of their busy money making schedules to chase around huge men and, with the aid of diminutive patches of yellow fabric, control a few hours of semi-organized violence.  Every Packer fan in the world should seek out a football official to give him a hug or buy him a drink this week, because twice in two weeks the Packers have had their feet to the fire only to have one of the zebras help out a good bit.  This week it was a return gaffe by Robert Ferguson, whose fumble sure looked like a guy in purple got it, but the officials ruled it Packer ball thanks to “let me get my roster sheet again" tight end Ben Steele.  But just as James Thrash's stutter step last week doesn't really matter, a win is a win and the Packers got another one.  This week, we take another look at the Vikings game, check in to see who is heading from the on deck circle to the batter's box, and prattle on about a few other things.  Go Packers!

Ah... The Chokings! Priceless...

Flogging A Dead Horse...

On a tour of Wisconsin, the Pope took a few vacation days off, just to visit Lake Superior.  He was cruising along Chequamagon Bay in the Pope-mobile when there was a frantic commotion just off shore.

A helpless man, wearing a Vikings jersey was struggling frantically to free himself from the jaws of a 25 foot Muskie.  As the Pope watched horrified, a speedboat came by with three men wearing Green Bay Packer jerseys.  One quickly fired a harpoon into the Muskies' side.  the other two reached out and pulled the blue, semiconscious Viking fan from the water.  Then using their long clubs, the three beat the huge Muskie to death and hauled it into the boat.

Immediately the Pope shouted and summoned them to him, "I give you my blessing for your brave actions.  I had heard that there were some bitter hatreds between the Packers and the Vikings, but now I have seen with my own eyes that this is not true."

As the Pope drove off, the harpooner asked his buds, "Who was that?"

"It was the Pope," one replied. "He's in direct contact with God and has access to all of God's wisdom."

"Well," the harpooner said, "he may have access to wisdom, but he doesn't know anything about fishing for Muskies !!  Is the bait holding up OK or do we need to get another one?"

Gentlemen, I have not checked into the Rockwood Lodge for about two years and boy had I forgotten what I had missed.  All I have to say is "God bless you."  Such a solid body of work.  Such insight.....I raise a Blitz to you all....Tim Aylor, Raleigh North Carolina

Oh My Achin' Cheesehead...This Sunday's game against the Putrid Purple Pride People---- I just read where this game is the 86th meeting, aaaaaaaaaaaaand each team has won 42 of the 85 games played to date.  There has been one tie, a 10-10 overtime standoff in 1978 that figured in the determination of a division championship won, (alas, by the Vikes)

Also read tickets are tuff to get...the $75 dollar seats are going for $225, and thats if U can even find one.  20% of tickets are being obtained by the fans from the Land of 10,000 Fakes.  I say...put up the barricades on the eastern side of Wisconsin. (We got enough of them here already!)  Say a Green & Gold prayer folks... hang onto your beer and cheetos, its gonna be one helluva game !

Well, another very much needed win, this time vs. Washington.  As Dr. Favre said, it's a little sad that everyone is so happy to be back to 4-4.  Still, it's better than 3-5 or even worse.  The Packers really do have some hope again, they're back in the thick of the NFC North and in the middle of the muddled and not terribly competitive NFC wild card race.  Mr. Walker and I took a bye last week just like the team, but we have an unusually verbose piece to start the second half of the season.  To wit, we cover the playoff race, the Redskins victory, the upcoming game against the Vikings, and make a series of bold and probably spectacularly inaccurate predictions about the second half of the season.  Beyond that, we even review our first half predictions in the interest of fairness.  Eight games to go, and back in the hunt.  Go Packers!

That Magic Moment

Ah... The Choke Kings!

I thought we were playing pretty good ball in December even though we lost two games on the last play essentially — the Chicago game where we had the interception in the end zone and the Arizona game where we enabled Green Bay to have a parade.”

The Fish Are Biting In Green Bay

Speak Out Spew Off...

A green 'n' gold what up to young Ana in Texas (Our goal is to convert the young one at time), A Packer Fan not ready to join the playoff bandwagon (jump on and sit down next to us, we're still clinging to our earlier 12-4 prediction), Lemondrop checks in with some woooo hooooing (aren't we all), and Juan, it does pay off to create small sacrificial fires to get the results most desired (Let us know when you're in L.A. some sunday and we'll demonstrate for you).  Go Packers!!!

Dear beerkid, Hey what up.  My name is Ana and I'm an eager young packer fan from Edinburg,tx.  I just wanted to let you know that my whole family disgraces me for being such a Packerfan and not a Dallas fan but me being a small 12 year old are trying to get me out of the habit.  Well gotta go I have to boast a bit more on how Packers beat the snot out of the Cowboys.  Man that felt good!  Sincerely, Ana

Beer Kid, I have been to busy to catch the last couple of weeks but as I was flying back from Ripley, Tennessee this last weekend during the Packers bye week, it caught my attention that some of the 'top' NFC teams were getting their ass kicked and in the process looking pretty vunerable.  I'm still not on the bandwagon but if the Green-n-Gold beat the Vikes as I predict, then beat Houston on the road and St. Louis at home, and Philly on the road... I will be paying cold hard cash for a ticket on the playoff bus.  I still want Sherman to give up the reigns and get new offensive and defensive coordinators, but bitching about that will sure be easier if Favre and Co. make the playoffs.  I am also estatic the win against Washington resulted in a Kerry loss.  Take Care and loved your posts.

Woooo Hoooooooooo Skins R Us!  Gotta Luv them men-in-green!  Giants and Boys... well they helped us.  Wooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooo Case Closed,  Lemondrop

Beer Kid, I have been watching cable news and surfing the web – basically… I am voting BUSH and with the Dairyland such a key state this year, I am really worried.  My dilemma is - and I am looking for a little advice here - is with our beloved Pack winning two in a row and desperately needing to win ALL their games, history has indicated that when Washington wins their last home game before an election, the incumbent wins the election.  I am torn!  I want the Pack to win but I also want Bush to win.  Needless to say I have been drinking and smoking alot!  Help a brother out here and give me some advice!  Juan Molitor – San Diego, CA
