Packer Palace Predicts...

Friday, August 15, 2008 - After an off-season that resembled anything but a Summer Of Love, we saw our pro-bowl QB retire, un-retire, retire again and then a triumphant return to Green Bay which ended behind closed doors and with a send-off to the NY Jets for a "save-face for all" conditional pick... where does the fork in the road take this Packers team now. Never doubt (yet, never bet) that we've divined and travelled those golden astral crossroads, followed down through the green mists of a time yet to come for this NFL season, and if you thought last year's roller coaster ride of wins (almost everyone) and losses (mostly duh Bears) that ended with the plummet down into a blackhole laden abyss of alcoholic depravity (Ed. Note: Technically, to our knowledge, that was only you, not the Packers) and the near miss in reaching the Super Bowl that left us fans grumbling after an incredibly successful season.

This year the Packers success bends and twists in configurations not seen since the pre-BF era, an acrimonious parting still lingers, a new un-seasoned QB installed in his place, a defense looking to improve it's top 10 standing from last year, and now an organization looking to prove itself to many of us who doubt, yet, we see what we see, and it looks like another NFC North Division Crown for the Packers.

 Packers 11-5
  Vikings   8-8
     Bears   7-9
      Lions   6-10

The numbers are always tumbling, every injury, every heroic effort affects them. They were first prominently 12, then shuddered and slipped slowly down to 10, and now with the recent events settled, the numbers have creeped up and leveled off at 11 wins predicted for the Green Bay Packers this year. Difficult tests for the offense, carried at times by the defense, a division crown and home playoff game stands looming before those on the road to the Super Bowl.

Packers are still the defending NFC North Champions, and will be the favorite to retain their crown. Leave us your name, leave us your forecast, tell us where we're wrong:

Kaesekopfs, it's time for REAL football. As I peer into the Crystal Beer Bottle, I see that the Pack wins division at 9-7. Lions stun the world, finishing 2nd at 8-8, tied with the Purple Norwegian Drag Queens. Duh Bums are left suckin' hind teat at 5-11.

Flynn is the backup, deservedly so. Remember back in the Wolf era, we always found QBs in later rounds, as well as decent WRs? Oddly enough, Thompson worked in Personnel then. And oddly enough, as soon as he comes back, we land Jennings and Jones (who were wayyyyy under the radar) and now Flynn. Let's hope Ted was responsible for a lot of those moves back in the day.

hey BK... I think 11-5 may be a bit too much to hope for this year... especially based on the very (very) tough schedule, not to mention the growing pains we'll go through this season. I would place my bet more along the line of 9-7, and that should be enough to win the division. Exit stage left early in the playoffs, as a wild card team possibly, and then regroup and begin the DYNASTY in 2009, after one more year of adding key players and a sound draft focused on the defensive side of the ball. I am pumped for this season, with one eye on the current situation, the other looking toward the coming horizon. Start making plans to be in Miami on February 7, 2010. I

WOW BEERKID.............. They're getting wound a little tight over a couple "pre-season" games, aren't they??? All I want is a seat on the Packer's bandwagon right next to you BeerKid, I bet your alot of fun!!! The comments of "I'm no longer a Packer fan", good riddance!!! Get the fuck off and stay off!!! For those of you who are hoping the Packers lose alot so TT gets fired and are also hoping the Packers win alot of games cause your a fan, either get the fuck off or get the fuck on, but quit dragging your feet cause your slowing the wagon down!! And don't wait til half the season is over to see what side you should jump on. Gotta be some pretty empty games coming up for you all, as you root for them to "lose and win" at the same fucking time. I'm happy to join all the rest of you on the bandwagon, I like friends that I can trust! Prediction 10-6 or 11-5.

Long Live the Pack!!!

Vikings 10-6, Packers 10-6, Lions 7-9, Bears 7-9 Packers lose division record tie-breaker.

Due to a hangover that lead to drunkenness, I have revised my earlier, beer-goggled prediction, to be as follows.

Vikings 10-6, Packers 9-7, Bears 7-9, Lions 6-10

My sad outlook for the season has the Viques taking the NFCN title and the Packers losing out on a playoff berth on a tie-breaker.Sure, Rodgers needs more time in the pocket than did Favre - its a matter of experience. However with the O-Line, the Packers did little to attempt an upgrade in this area this year. They are still trying to find the "best five".

Yea, we'll still see the Big Five this year (Lemonade-maker McCarthy), but without the Best Five on the line, how long is it til the Big Five are no Big Deal? Sure, Lyle Lovette's Large Band uses a lot of soap and towels, but how does that guarantee a successful concert? Hail fellow well met does not mean he won't rape our sisters.

Final prediction: one part doom, two parts grilled meat, three parts combustibles and beer, and four parts friends equal a great season! Go Leinie's Creamy Dark, Go Green, Go Meat, and Go Pack!

Go Pack!
___________________________________

If we look anything like we did tonight against the niners...it's going to be a looooong season. It was absolutely painful to watch. If we play like tonight, I'm saying 6-10...if we play like last week, I'll say maybe 9-7. If we can improve a bit from our play last week I'd say 10-6 is the best we'll see this year. But after tonight, I am not optimistic at all, and I'm cringing at the possibility of another 4-12 season. I don't think I could take it...

Well, I'm thinking 10-6 this year, because Rodgers is still getting gelled with the offense. Hope they prove me wrong.... GO PACK!!

Live At The Marquee...

So in our travails to watch the Packers pre-season games this year, BeerScout and I came across this pretty cool website community called Justin TV www.justin.tv that allows you to stream video to your Justin TV homepage with the added bonus of running a chat room message board commentary going on the side. Pretty easy to setup yourself up, we tried with both my built-in webcam and a Panasonic video camera and well, due to the limitations of my very slow DSL speed, ended up getting that stop-gap animation movement that well, no one calls that streaming video. So until we upgrade our DSL speed, we're reduced to just watching what's streaming at any Justin TV channel.

Now what's really cool about this service, is the fact that let's say you have some old video of a family vacation on VHS you want to annoy your friends with, well guess what, using your video camera as go between, you should be able to go video out from TV to camera and to computer you are now setup to be a Justin TV broadcast channel. Yes, you can play a tape or DVD or well, oh hell here's the real point, anything broadcasting on TV at any given time, like tonight for example, and then email your friends BeerKid@PackerPalace.com and BeerScout@PackerPalace.com and let us know what your broadcasting.

Like I said, it's fun, and in this modern day and age, the ability for everyone participating to provide commentary as your also watching TV on your computer is pretty damn cool. It's just until Packer Palace HQ beefs up it's DSL service (coming soon) we have to rely on others to broadcast to us. Let us know when you are... and you can find my non-broadcasting channel at www.justin.tv/beerkid with revealing hints in the less-than-spectacular test episodes. Go Pack!

The Exotic Sounds...

Who ever said that you can't cross some Tiki Titan Hawaiian War Dance with some good ol' green and gold Americana Whack-A-Mole just didn't know what they were talking about. This week in the Rockwood Lodge we prove it by bringing you

the Exotic Sounds of Elvis McCarthy

and Packer Palace's own Rock Rock Rock-a-Hula Exotic Dancers. So tap your toes, swing your hips, and sway your hands into the Rockwood Lodge for some tiki-titan fun and games.

4 Old Retired Guys...

Four old retired guys are walking down a street in Naples, Florida. They turned a corner and see a sign that says, "Old Timers Bar - all drinks 10 cents."

They look at each other, and then go in, thinking this is too good to be true. The old bartender says in a voice that carries across the room, "Come on in and let me pour one for you! What"ll it be, Gentlemen?"

There seemed to be a fully-stocked bar, so each of the men ordered a martini. In short order, the bartender serves up four iced martinis... shaken, not stirred, and says, "That"ll be 10 cents each, please." The four men stare at the bartender for a moment. Then look at each other... They can"t believe their good luck. They pay the 40 cents, finish their martinis, & order another round.

Again, four excellent martinis are produced with the bartender again saying, "That"s 40 cents, please." They pay the 40 cents, but their curiosity is more than they can stand. They have each had two martinis and so far they have spent less than a dollar. Finally, one of the men says, "How can you afford to serve martinis as good as these for a dime a piece?"

"I'm a retired tailor from Boston," the bartender said, "and I always wanted to own a bar. Last year I hit the Lottery for $125 million & decided to open this place. Every drink costs a dime wine, liquor, beer, it"s all the same."

"Wow!!!! That"s quite a story," says one of the men.

The four of them sipped at their martinis and couldn"t help but notice seven other people at the end of the bar who didn"t have drinks in front of them, and hadn"t ordered anything the whole time they were there. One man gestures at the seven at the end of the bar without drinks & asks the bartender, "What"s with them?"

The bartender says, "Oh, they're all old retired farts from Wisconsin. They"re waiting for happy hour when drinks are half price."

Wow!!!! After reading all these post I would never have pegged all of you as Packer Fans! Yes I'm a huge Packer Fan and Brett Farve is the greatest Qb to grace the gridiron as of yet. But above all I'm a packer fan have been since the day I was born long before Brett showed his grin and long after he'll be gone. Did everyone think that he was gonna play for 100 years? We all knew the days of Brett no longer walking out of that tunnel would come. Come on to achieve what he has is amazing we all know that. It seems to me some packer fans have gotten so spoiled and egotisticall over the last 16 years it amazes me. That is not what a true fan of the Green and Gold has been about for all these years. Does anyone know for a fact that Rodgers is this totally shitty Qb you all make him out to be? NO!! and a few preseason games dont mean diddly when a team isn't even calling the real playbook. Rodgers will be alright, what I would worry about is the offensive line thats what we need to get right. None of us have any control of what happens in the front offices and if you think you could do better why not go get yourself a Gm job or coaching role and prove it. Was this a mistake only time will tell....but I'm not sure it was.

As for boycotting the pack if thats what you choose to do then fine but don't let me see you trying to sneak your way onto the bandwagon when things are going good. Us true fans that they say bleed green and gold.... We take the good with the bad no matter what and we don't throw our jerseys on to the concrete of the parking lot when we loose and cry (like others across the river) We were one of the worst teams for the longest time there but you know what packer fans still strapped it on on gameday and you never heard all this whinning when the front office made a decision that didn't seem right. (T. Mandarich) For all we know Rodgers could be the next Farve I remember when Farve took the field and all I heard was who in the hell was this Drunk no one wanted him then and now everyone wants him now.. Yesd he is great and we might have been better off with #4 under center but you know what, He retired He said he couldn't do it anymore couldn't give 100% and we moved on do you want your players only giving 80% no it would piss you off. I'll guarantee you all this as good as Brett is and trust me I think he's the best to ever walk the field he will not lead the Jets to the Superbowl. So if you are a true Packer Backer the shut up quit whining and enjoy the season if you so choose to leave the bandwagon then fine your choice goodbye see ya and don't come back. With all this Whining you might as well call this Viking Palace not Packer Palace

fgbsrekcap

Hey fgbsrekcap, it's been a tough summer with all that hoopla going on in and around Green Bay, and it's divided us fans like nothing before... TT and MM may have screwed the pooch on this one, but BF blew it if he really, really wanted to be the QB in GB. BK - Pack For Life!

The Ballad Of Ted
Once upon a time there was a man named Ted.
He had albino hair on top of his head.
He looked like an owl but was not very wise.
And said he liked players who had really big eyes.

He worried a lot about his new quarterback.
Unproven and fragile and good for a sack.
He wondered how Brett was and how he is missed.
Because half of his team is on the injury list.

So now Ted was in trouble, there was no "grand" plan.
He can't even hire the D.C. "spin doctor" man.
The smart fans could see through his lies and deceit.
And were worried the Packers would go down in defeat.

Now preseason is here and the fans aren't impressed.
And that's why Ted's trousers are soiled and messed.
The train left the station... and you're moving on.
But give us a break Ted... WHAT train are you on?

So Cheeseheads unite... dissention I say!
Torches and pitchforks are soon on the way!
If you don't beat the Vikings on that first Monday night!
You'll feel the wrath of the fans and all of their might!

When I wrote this poem, I dare say I laughed.
Since injury prone players is all Ted can draft.
Half the smart fans ...their posts make me think.
The other half sheeple... Ted's Koolaid you DRINK!!!

So far im saying we go 11-5 , and after watching the Queens i think we can chalk up another division title. Oh yea what do u guys think of this Kregg Lumpkin guy? Packers 4 life and after!

Dan Solberg

Hey Dan, just like you, RB Lumpkin has really caught my eye with his play, like usual, has an injury history, but I wonder if they can make room for him on the roster, with Grant, Jackson, Morency(?), Herron (gone?) and Wynn (already gone). I don't think he would make it to the practice squad, some other team will want him. Grant and Jackson are good runners, Morency is the blitz-pickup blocker, maybe the Packers only go with one FB this year, seeing that 3 TE's might make the team, and MM believes that FB/TE are kind of one position. By next week we'll all know. BK - Pack For Life!

BK, wondering how the running back position is looking grant and jackson, and then who? lumpkin? Morency? maybe wynn? let me know what you guys think.

brewsky in vb

Hey brewsky, to expand on what I said above to Dan, Ryan Grant should be the starter, Brandon Jackson has really improved, he stayed in GB, added bulk, and is adopting Grant's aggressive running style. Vernand Morency I thought would be gone this year, but it's like he going to be the 3rd down RB, mostly because he can block, but as the old man on the RB roster, and with a different running style, you would think he on the team again this year. I like Kregg Lumpkin, here's an article on him - Lumpkin makes a run at a backup job from Pete Dougherty at GB Press Gazette that covers more than I can say. BK - Pack For Life!

Watch-out Green Bay Packers!!! The Purr-purr purr-fect 2-0 Detroit Lions with their purr-purr purr-fect rated QB Jon Kitna are hot! hot!! hot!!! Paris Hilton Hawt! HAWT!!!

In other news, the Pathetic Packers played pathetically in a pathetic pre-season loss to the SF 49ers by the final score of 34 to pathetic 6. How Pathetic!

In related news, optimistic fans still expect the Packers to win the NFC North with 11 wins or more.

The Packers seem to have a death wish. By digging such a deep hole for themselves, they are going to bring out the boo birds and bandwagon deserters right away. That will increase the pressure to win, which will make them play with more desperation. That vicious cycle will derail the team for 2008. If Favre plays well and the Jets win, the cry for TT to be strung up in the parking lot will grow louder. I have been down this road before. The more the fans get ugly, the lesser the chances of winning become. 2008 is not going to be pretty.

Chill out Packer Jim.

Don't chill out too much, though. The reality here is that the Pack is starting a rookie QB. Yes, I realize he's not technically a rookie, but I think you all know what I mean. There are going to be good weeks and bad weeks. We have to hope that there are more good ones than bad ones. I personally will be thrilled with 9-7 this year.

What REALLY kills me about Saturday night is the crappy performance of the rest of the team. It's not Rodgers' fault that Jarrett Bush is still on the team. Does Bush have pictures of somebody???

And some plucky writer somewhere needs to address this ridiculous strategy of giving the starting guard job to Josh Sitton. He might have a lot of potential, but wouldn't it make more sense to start Spitz like last year and work this guy in once he gets a clue???? We should probably be glad Favre is gone because O-line play like the other night would have gotten him killed by Columbus Day.

How about that Vernon Davis! But we got A.J. "Average" Hawk. This is the year TT and Mike Meathead McCarthy prove they're averageness. They owe their contract extensions to one man: Brett Favre.

Hey Lemondrop, the post-career marketing contract is one of those "BF is always a Packer" type agreements... and compared to the alleged marketing deals for 25-40 million BF could get in NY now, the GB offer is paltry in comparison.  BK

What an idiot. Unfortunately Mike Murphy has buddied up to the failure system. The Brew Crew was good in the 80's though weren't they!

Hey Packer Jim, the highs, the lows, that's what it has always meant to be a life-long Packers Fan. We used to joke when were in our early twenty's that we couldn't watch the Packers in our Fifty's, because our heart's couldn't take the emotional beating week in and week out of watching the Packers football games. I'm not in my Fifty's yet, but I consider the stress of being a Packer fan as "good exercise for my heart" that will somehow extend my life. Sometimes you have to just laugh at how pathetic your favorite team is run by those involved. You do... just laugh.  BK

And Ted says:  Now I've justified this to myself in all sorts of ways. It wasn't a big deal, just a minor betrayal. Or we'd outgrown each other, you know, that sort of thing. But let's face it, I ripped the fans off - my so called mates. But Driver, I couldn't give a shit about him. And McCarthy, well he'd done the same to me, if he'd only thought of it first. And Mark Tauscher, well okay, I felt sorry for Mark - he never hurt anybody. So why did I do it? I could offer a million answers - all false. The truth is that I'm a bad person. But, that's gonna change - I'm going to change. This is the last of that sort of thing. Now I'm cleaning up and I'm moving on, going straight and choosing life. I'm looking forward to it already. I'm gonna be just like you. The job, the family, the fucking big television. The washing machine, the car, the compact disc and electric tin opener, good health, low cholesterol, dental insurance, mortgage, starter home, leisure wear, luggage, three piece suite, DIY, game shows, junk food, children, walks in the park, nine to five, good at golf, washing the car, choice of sweaters, family Christmas, indexed pension, tax exemption, clearing gutters, getting by, looking ahead, the day you die.

An ego is a terrible thing to bet on, especially when you already had Brett Favre.

It's SHITE being Packer Fan! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of the fucking Earth! The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization. Some hate us. I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are ruled by wankers. Can't even find a decent offensive lineman. We're ruled by effete assholes. It's a SHITE state of affairs to be in, and ALL the fresh air in the world won't make any fucking difference!

On why Brett Favre Should still be a Packer:  "People think it's all about misery and desperation and death and all that shit which is not to be ignored, but what they forget is the pleasure of it. Otherwise we wouldn't do it. After all, we're not fucking stupid. At least, we're not that fucking stupid."

I don't feel the sickness yet, but it's in the post. That's for sure. I'm in the junkie limbo at the moment. Too ill to sleep. Too tired to stay awake, but the sickness is on its way. Sweat, chills, nausea. Pain and craving. A need like nothing else I've ever known will soon take hold of me. It's on its way.

Ted must have asked himself, "Do you really need Brett Favre when you have heroin?"

Packer Jim

Hey Packer Jim, you have some funny stuff buried in all those comments... hey, we almost dropped everything we were doing to run off and drive 6 hours to go to SF to watch the Packers play... jeez, good thing we didn't waste our effort seeing that there was so little effort by the Packers themselves. We can blame BeerScout though, he was at the Dodgers-Brewers game, although he never made it to the 10th to see the win.  BK

Shocking Breaking News...

It's now my "Unforgettable Manitoba Moment." Did the tentacles of Brett Favre's early retirement stretch out and claim victims across international borders? Following up on a story first provided in Canada by our not-so anonymous tipster at Tundra Talk, We had our top-level investigating interns pull this Travel Manitoba Tourism poster into Photoshop CS3 for close-up examination - Lo and Behold there, eh! A patch of green that survived the fake color adjustment. Did Brett Favre's early retirement mess with the plans of the Gimli Icelandic Festival? It's must be true, click through to see the shocking evidence.

This young boy was clearly in a Green n Gold Packers #4 jersey, but with BF's quicker than expected retirement, the Travel Manitoba board was forced to alter their tourism posters. Like many of us, they suspected BF wanted to be a Vikqueen in Minnesota, and it looks like executives in Manitoba agreed with that sentiment, and gave the go order to change and remove the Green Bay jersey from their tourism posters.

Poor kid, a proud Packers fan now forever branded a Vikqueens fan. Yes it's Shocking! Someone should be held accountable!!! Trashing cheeseheads from Wisconsin is no way to run a Tourism Industry up there, eh.

Hey BeerKid......... A-Rod looked as I expected. Driver and Francies dropped a couple 1st down catches that he put "on their hands". A half step too far on the pass to Jones. He has to remember Jones is not a speed demon but a brute!!! Gotta love the TD catch!!! Just stands up and jogs to the end zone..... His stats would have been much better w/o those gaffs. Turned out perfect (not too good, not too bad).

I thought the rookie QB's looked just like they should look. Don't think either one of them would lead the Pack to a SB victory if A-Rod got hurt this year but then again I don't think any of the F/A QB's walking around out there are gonna either or they wouldn't be out there walking around! I like TT's thinking w/the QB situation. It's like renting vs. buying a house. I like his drafting also. Like a stock trader looking for under-valued blue chip stocks to buy. I did not realize that there were so many mind readers in the state of Wisconsin. In fact, the shear number of people who have been able to read TT and Brett Favre's minds is remarkable for such a rural part of the country.

While I have been trying to figure out what happened between Favre and the Pack, there are those who have been able to determine what the people involved actually have been thinking. Those mind readers have an obvious advantage over those of us who must rely on more earthly ways to figure out what happened.

In many ways, I am already tired of the mind readers who know what Favre was thinking or who know what TT was thinking. The strange part is that they did not seem to "hear" those voices until this was well underway.

If the mind readers had been paying attention, they would have known that Favre was going to change his mind the day he retired. If they had been on full power, they might have been able to stop this whole mess with a couple of carefully placed phone calls to Hattiesburg.

Since I don't possess the ability, I have to use my other senses to figure out what happened.

Hey Mellonhead, I checked with bigfoot boarder tirademan (aka BeerScout in Packer circles) and this story's been leaking slowly in the bigfoot forums for a few weeks, and the more it drags out the more true researchers are getting suspicious and skeptical of this whole thing. As The Bandwagon Gets Lighter And Lighter...

The Packers managment F'ed this one up! They could have got more for him if they didn't blow this deal! If you are on the side of management, then I have to stop visiting your site!!!!!!!

    JONNY C

Let me re-clarify my position for everyone:
I'm pissed that Brett Favre has forced me to take the Packers Management position.
I expected BF to be the starting QB this year, his retirement surprised me. Still, the door to return seemed open. Apparently BF calls to announce he's ready to return in late June. Based on 5 months of previous history, Management doesn't believe him. The interview with Greta Van Sustern was a terrible PR move by BF. Sending out his Mom and Wife to bad-mouth the Packers Management, another bad PR move. Where was his agent Bus Cook? Cook could have said exactly what BF did in that interview and it wouldn't have burned any bridges back to Green Bay or pissed-off Packer fans half as much. Say what you will about Drew Rosenhaus, but he knows his role as an agent. Despite these gaffes, the door hasn't completely slammed shut on his return to the Pack. It's BF's own words that eventually do him in, wanting to play for the Vikqueens instead of a backup role with the Packers. The bridges started burning again...

It continues on, BF gets re-instated by the NFL Commissioner, returns to Green Bay, reconciliation is close at hand, until our beloved BF can't get over all the personal issues exchanged during the summer, all of which his side took public. Pfffffffffft!!! What was management going to do at this point, let a player into the locker room who just promised in face-to-face meetings to continue bad-mouthing the Management.

No matter what the Packers said, projected, requested of BF all off-season long, he had the winning hand, report to off-season work-outs and make this whole issue about whether or not he should be the starting QB of the Packers this year. Instead, if you ask me, everything points to BF wanting his release, that's not wanting to play for the Packers this year, and his decisions since February all guide you this way. I'm a Packers Fan first, being a BF Fanboy is 5th on the list. So they get a probable 3rd or possible 2nd round pick for BF in the end, part of that transaction was to let everybody involved "move on".

Jonny, stay or go, I'm more interested in the Packers game against the Bengals Monday night than anything that's gone on before or anyone who is issuing ultimatums about visiting a website. Be adaptive, we're all being forced to move on.

Both sides screwed up, and Favre his gone. End of story. I'm not saying we have to like it, but there ain't a thing we can do about it. Let's get drunk and watch the Packers now!

Ruppert
________________________________

I do not disagree that Favre took the wrong road in his PR stance during the "negotiations", but I think you are excluding quite a bit. 1.) Green Bay Management did not wnat him back. So Favre indicated that he did not want to be a distraction, he asked of a release. Management said NO! Why? The brilliant TT thought he could make a great deal beacuse he is sitting on Favre, HOF QB coming off one of his best years. What TT forgot, as well as those who back him...TT cannot make a deal. That is why, good or bad, there are few free agents in GB and that is why he got squat for Favre.

Also, forgotten is the bad PR that the packer org. but out against Favre. They leaked the false story about the Packer issued cell phone. Bogus They initiated th bogus Vikqueens tampering charges. shot down by the league. They flip/flopped on the possibility that Favre could come back and compete for the QB spot. First it was a flat no, then when Favre push his way back to GB they said okay, then when he was in GB they again said no. I wonder if this is how the Packer management has been handling their business for the 5 months, or even the last 3 years, with Favre.

I am a 35 yr Pack fan. This year has an asterisk beside it for me.

While there were plenty of mistakes made in the Favre deal (on both sides) real Packer fans will continue to follow and support the team. Those who take out their hatred of Thompson on Rogers are either simple-minded or closed-minded.

I think TT is the one who stoked the fire and drove the train out of Brett's station 3 years ago. You can tell this animosity has been brewing, and Ted wanted nothing to do with Brett. I also agree with Jonny C. How does McCarthy NOT get to the point in the conversation where he says, "It's your team Brett, lets win a SB." How do you NOT work through 3 months of pointless ego drivel aired in the media? Their job is to win now. I like Rodgers, but you have a CHANCE to work it out with Floppy Brett and you can't convince him to stay? I don't think they were really trying at all...which is what blows my mind the most. Hey BeerKid........... It's sad to see how all the Favre fans can't see the big picture/both sides and are jumping off the Packer's bandwagon. It's scary to see how they'll try to tear down Rodgers and the team so they can say "look, we were right, w/o Favre the Packers aren't any good". Like Rodgers said, it's a little bothersome when little kids are calling you a fucking asshole as your heading into the stadium. Their stupidy and blindness has clouded their judgement. Everyone has said it has nothing to do w/Rodgers. Give Favre and TT equal blame in this if you want or not.......? Leave Rodgers out of it. BF's job is playing football, and helping put W's up for his team. TT's job is putting the best players onto a team for MM to coach. BF is STILL one of the NFL's best QBs. The Packers mgmt is not even close to being on the same level as BF in their respective professional job requirements. GB fans lose. Mgmt screwed this up when it was their job - their primary responsibility - to make it right. Packers may make the playoffs despite TT and crew, but it will on the backs of a defense that will have to step up and not the result of the confidence, energy, expertise, emotion, and leadership consistently shown by future HOF #4.

Maybe it's time we as Packer fans get behind our team. I'm tired of people knocking this team as destined for failure all of a sudden. Don't forget the only reason we didn't make the Super Bowl last year was Brett's last pass. This team has worked there asses off and have shown absolute resilience throughout the last month. Maybe before we hang Rodgers from the rafters we should let that kid prove his worth on the goal line. It's time we unite and get ready to kick some ass this year because I'll be damned if we lose our division. I love Brett just as much as the next guy, but I'm a packer fan more than anything else. We all knew Brett would be gone one day and we should consider ourselves lucky that we were blessed to have him all those years.

Melancholoy. I hate what has happened and don't know who is at fault, but not sure it matters. The following has helped me as we near preson kick off: I remember thinking, and recently heard an archival quote from Bret talking, about how the Packers were a better team without their extremely talented WR, Sterling Sharpe. In addition to all of the other oft-repeated factors, I believe the removal of Sharpe was a key reason behind the Packers moving to the next level in the mid 90s.

Brett was MVP of the team and nearly the league last year, but I wonder if this change can actually help the Packers. Think of the last 2 overtime losses we've experienced. Forcing a ball through the defense in the middle of the 2nd quarter when down by 14 is understandable...gunslinger-esque. But the OT throws against the Eagles and Giants picks are not excusable. Brett certainly deserves credit for winning leading up to the big game and even putting us in position to win, but failed in the clutch.

I will watch the Jets, and root for Brett. But just as much as ever I will support the Pack and cheer on Mr. Rodger's. Favre didn't make it to Tampa, here's to hoping the Packers do!!!!

________________________________

So the same Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy who took us to within a Brett Favre interception of the Super Bowl are now idiots? I fully agree that the Packers did a poor job of handling this crisis, but I don't think they fully understood how much Favre wanted to play again.

They have reasoned that moving on was in the best long-term interest of the Packers. They understand that Favre has one or perhaps two years left in him (yet to be determined) and prolonging that was not going to get them to the Super Bowl.

So they have taken an enormous risk on Aaron Rogers and are hoping and betting that he will be at least the best QB in the NFC North (yet to be determined) and perhaps in the top 10 in the NFL. If that happens, the rest of the team is strong and the the Packers will be in the mix without Brett Favre.

We all hated to see Brett go. Having him in New York is perhaps marginally better than having him in Minneapolis, but not having him in Green Bay is hard to take. That being said, it is over and I am of the mindset to move on.

Packer Palace Poll...

Take The New Packer Palace Poll...

Who Has Their Head Up Their Ass The Farthest?

B-B-B-B-Buh-Brett Is A Jet!

Bye-bye Brett. I've expended a lot of energy mostly deriding and yet still defending you, but in the end, if you can't convince your head coach you want to play for his team, well then, I guess you get traded to the New York Jets for a conditional 4th round pick. The trade to the NY Jets will escalate to a 3rd rounder if Brett plays half the games, and eventually a 1st rounder if he continues his Pro-Bowl playing ways. The Jets can re-trade Brett Favre if they want to... like to the Vikings or Bears, but it will cost them three 1st round picks back to the Packers to do so. So Brett is a Jet. The saga ends... until the day he re-signs a 1 day contract to retire as a Packer. Hey Buddy, have fun in New Jersey where it's just as cold and windy as Green Bay.

Here's my only NY Jets story... Long time ago we were sitting in the basement of big sports bar watching the Packers play and watching the other games on different TV's, you had fans all huddled and centered around their game of choice. The Jets fans had their only little area in an open room, and they were there every week. It was getting obnoxious one Sunday morning, and after hearing the constant J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets crap after every little play that went in the Jets favor, I finally had to respond, so after Brett Favre completed a swing pass to the fullback for a 1 yard gain, I stood up and bellowed out P-A-C-K Pack Pack Pack, that left about 70 people sitting there stunned in silence, including the ridiculous Jets fans. After that, well I got some comments that I was louder than 15 Jets fans, but at least they only chanted j-e-t-s every 10 minutes instead of after every single play. Just doing my duty to be an Anti-Jets Noise and Nuisance Enforcer.

What kind of a coach doesn't "get to that point in the conversation"? Sounds like McCarthy and Thompson had their minds made up before Brett even got there. The WORST Managment team in Packer history! Where are those legendary Packer values?????

JONNY C

Hey Jonny, a coach doesn't get to that point when his star player says he can't keep his mouth shut and will continue to bad-mouth the team (remember the word 'mindset') whether he's on the roster or not. YOU would let this person into your locker-room? I wouldn't... BF couldn't get over all the bad things that were said about him, although he was the one who made the spat personal by going on TV and airing his dirty laundry. As usual, the Fans lost the most. BK

I awoke to the news Brett is a Jet. I never in my life thought that would happen, even with all this drama/media. For years I have known you can't believe a politican, your senator, governor, president. I never would have thought, living in Wisconsin, and being a life time Packer fan, now you just can't even believe in the Packers?

Holy Crap. I really want to know the Paul Harvey "Rest of the Story" We are media fed bits and pieces, sources say. Who is Mr or Mrs Source.? Its a dark day for me to wake up and find my Packers' traded the QB away to the Jets? Traded him away? For a 4th round Draft Pick?

I bet, the Vince Lombardi statue at Lambeau had a tear running out of his eye today. I wish someone today would have paid attention to that possiblility. I am still the die hard Packer fan I have always been. This whole thing just makes me wanna throw up.
What the Hell is this world coming to? BeerKid..... make some sense out of it for me, Puleeeze.

First of all--Great posts, people.

Dear Mr. Favre: It has been such a privilege to watch you take snaps for basically all of my legal-drinking-age life. No one that has ever played is at all like you. When the Packers won SB XXXI, I turned right to my girlfriend at the time and told her, quite emotionally and intoxicated, "Now I can die in peace." She was from Georgia, and had no idea what the hell I was talking about. But I meant it. To finally see the Packers win a championship was absolutely amazing and truly made a part of my life complete. Thank you, Brett.

But somewhere on the road from then until now, you changed. A lot. I suppose I can't blame you, especially when I think how different I am at age 37 than I was at age 26. And now you're a New York Jet. I hope you realize what that means, because being a Jet is an NFL death sentence. Best of luck, for you will need every bit of it. I hope you play as long as you want, then come back and take that marketing/merchandising thing, so you too can get another Super Bowl ring, the next time the Packers win one.

I will continue to cheer you on, second only to my continued cheering for the Green Bay Packers. What's done is done. No good will come of continued complaints.

Hey Fan, you are assuming BF flew to GB to join the team, it sounded to me he flew to GB to be in a training camp so he could still play for a another team (seeing his first choice the Vikqueens was shot down pretty hard) besides the Packers. Whatever his reasons, BF no longer wanted to play for the Packers.  BK

As a Raider fan, I must say I'm on the Packers' side on this whole thing. Brett is somewhat of a God there in Packerland...got it...understood. But be honest. You're the GM of a football team. Brett walking away was bound to happen....I wish you guys nothing but the best this season.

I guess if you want to close your mind and avoid the truth, you will continue to defend Brett Favre and to call for Thompson's head on a platter. The Packers were clearly tired of the roller-coaster ride that is Brett Favre. He is still one of the best QB's in the league and was clearly the best in the NFC North. That being said, the team consists of more than one player and when that player gets too big for the bus, he has to get off. I think Thompson and company would have bit their tongues and let Favre come back as late as April of this year had he give them a reason to believe that he was ready to play. In the end, he made them wait and wait and at some point they had to move on. When he let them pick two QB's in the draft and run through the OTAs with Rogers, he pretty much set this in motion.

While I believe the Packers made some mistakes here, I think they were in a no-win situation. If they don't take the legend back, they are screwed. If they do take them back, they lose the respect of every other player. Unfortunately, Favre had them over a barrel and they were never able to regain control of the situation until the end.

This will work out for the best. Favre might have another year or two in him, but the odds are against it. It is likely that every Packer fan wants Favre to do well and to win games for the Jets. It is also true that moving on now is critical to the long-term success of the Packers.

We Packer fans love our sacred cows. We howl like a dog when the let our favorite sons go. Anyone remember Dave Roller or Chuck Cecil? The list of people we have cried over in the last few years is long and sad. We hate to see even a marginal player get away, much less our hero Brett Favre.

I am sure if everyone could turn back the clock to February, this would come out differently. Of course it is too late for that and once the Favre side went public with their gripes and disclosed confidential conversations with the Packers, the fate was sealed.

If you are real Packer fan, you will move on and continue to support the team, coaches, and management. For those who are booing Aaron Rogers.....please move across the river to Minnesota where you would have a lot more reason to boo. I was a fan when Lombardi decided to unretire and coach the Redskins. I was upset, but when I look back, that is buy a mere blip on the screen and no one remembers Lombardi for that.

Hey BeerKid........... I was just thinking back to the big year Majik/Infante had (liked the Majik spoof thingy) and I remember they conducted a poll that year of "Whose been the greatest Packer's coach ever?" I think is was about four options of Lambeau, Starr, Lombardi and Infante. I shook my head for about two or three days after seeing Infante receive the most votes in the poll. Lombardi won 3 NFL Championships and 2 SuperBowls in 7 years and the Packer fans pick Infante (although I'll admit it was an wild, awesome year to watch). Couldn't believe it!!! Fans have short memories. If the Pack have a good year this year, the Favre fiasco will be forgotten. A couple, three good years and Favre will be pretty much forgotten. This article pretty much sums it up...
I've Never Been Through A Divorce... By Gene Mueller

...and this is as close as I ever want to get. Watching the Packers and Brett Favre go their separate ways felt like a combo platter of gout, piles and sciatica. With Favre safely in New York getting fitted for his finest green and white finery, I offer up a few reflections.

Brett Favre is now living with the consequences of his indecisiveness. Getting to this point, though, meant a journey to places many of us didn't want to go (Greta Van Susteren's couch, for one) and listening to things we didn't want to hear.
Make me a freshly minted Jets fan. I can justify cheering for the New York Jets quite simply. Not only can I cheer for Brett, but the better the Jets do, the better the draft pick the Packers will get from them will be. Here is the breakdown on the "conditions" of the fourth round conditional draft pick: The Pack would get a 1st round pick if Favre takes 80%of the snaps and the Jets make the Super Bowl, a 2nd round pick if the Jets make the playoffs and Favre plays 70%of the snaps or a 3rd round pick if Favre just takes 50% of the Jets snaps. Also, if the Jets turn around and trade the pick to the Vikings, Green Bay would get 3 1st round picks. The bottom line.. I CAN CHEER FOR BOTH. I was a Packers fan before Brett and will remain one forever. I just have another favorite team to watch.

MINDSET!  Based on Coach McCarthy's press conference it appears to this PACKERS fan that because Brett is still holding ill will against Ted, they have decided to allow our best chance of seeing Post Season play and beyond to leave the Green Bay area until he is traded to Tampa Bay or the J-E-T-S, JETS-JETS-JETS.

Wow! After All This...

Wow!!! After all this Coach Mike McCarthy still isn't convinced that Brett Favre really truly wants to play for the Green Bay Packers this year. Wow! Interesting press conference by the Coach. Brett convinced him he wanted to play football, he couldn't convince his coach he was committed to playing 100% for the Packers after a 5 hour sit-down face-to-face meeting. Incredible! Some very interesting things must have been said or left un-said.

One reason for the MM's doubt may have been all those off-season phone calls to Minnesota Viking coaches Darren Bevell and Brad Childress... Brett's never come clean on those calls, and the NFL commissioner said "coaches" had been cleared of tampering charges. That's more than one, more than just his alleged good buddy Bevell. By the way, I spent all day a few weeks ago searching to find stories of off-season conversations or one-liners mentioned in articles between BF and DB previous to this summer, ummm, there were NONE! Onwards, coach McCarthy also mentioned he would never allow any player into his locker room who harbored any negative feelings. That statement needed to be elaborated on a little more... I understand generically the importance of that statement, I want to know why it was applied to BF for today's practice.

When Packers.com gets around to it and puts up the link so we can re-watch Mike McCarthy's press conference from today, it should end up here on this page - Packers.Com Multimedia Video.

The Longest Day...

Man O' man, yesterday was one looooooong day - almost no news on Brett Favre, oh he showed up, the Packers put him on the active roster, they put CB Condrew Allen on Injured Reserve, and then that was it. This morning we get a little news, a 5 hour long meeting between the interested parties. So it was a long day... anticipating many things, but nothing delivered, so that becomes all good news at this point.

Today is going to be the longest day ever... After a day off, training camp resumes, so the big questions of today are will the Packers let BF practice with the team, will he get his starting QB job back, is BF still demanding to be released or a trade to a team he can start on - The Vikqueens for example - We are just going to have to wait until the dust and tundra turf resettle to the earth before we find out. I'll be waiting all day...

Happening Now - 5:05pm CST - The Press Conference with head coach Mike McCarthy cancelled last night has been re-scheduled for today, reportedly before the start of todays afternoon practice. Packers.Com will have the video of the press conference live at their website - Tuesday Press Conference when it actual happens - everything is TBA at this point.

Speak Out Spew Off...

Sunday Afternoon Update:  It's been announced through several sources that the Green Bay Packers are welcoming Brett Favre back for his 17th season (18th NFL) with the team and he will be joining the team when training camp resumes Tuesday morning. What this all means is anyone's guess. All of us hoped for some kind of reconciliation... Yet, I can now hear the blare of the orchestra, the roar of the tigers and elephants, the squeak and grind of wagon wheels, and the honking of clown horns as the closing in Circus is coming to Lambeau Field. That's Entertainment.

BK

Brett Favre has done nothing that warrants getting kicked off the team... NOTHING! Flip-flop all day, but he's not shooting heroin.

Large egos in the way. Brett and Ted probably hate each other, but "What is best for the team" is Favre and Rodgers, NOT A-God and 2 rookies! And I LIKE Rodgers!

I still can't believe this is happening.

BeerScout

It's a fine technicality between "getting kicked off the team" and not being allowed to report after semi-retirement, but BeerScout's point is valid. After several hours of talking BF while drinking Anderson Valley's Hop Ottin' IPA his one-line argument could be summed up as his quote above, well, it's missing the word "stupid" in describing TT and MM's actions, but otherwise accurate.

My one-line argument has been reduced to "TT and MM are not completely stupid, so BF must have said something very personal to piss off coach MM to the point, that MM is the one who does not want BF back." Sparks do fly (beer and spittle also) when BeerScout and myself get on a roll trying to defend our points with persuasive arguments and out-right speculation while tramping around the room with arms waving frantically. It almost always devolves into the typical bar-room broken empty beer bottle fight... but bloodshed sells, so some day will capture it on video for y'all.

Many have said there will be a circus comes to town with Favre, but Bus Cook must have different plans cause he said it'll be Disneyland.

Good. I've wanted to see Mickey and Minnie for some time. See, I've noticed their lips don't move when they talk. I think its a scam and they are just people in costumes and I want to get close enough to find out.

Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffin' glue.

Go Pack!

Every day I keep wondering if this can get worse. Now we have the President of the team involved in negotiation because Thompson has completely mismanaged the Favre situation. Those of you who do not think this is a slap down to the poor communication, decision making, and negotiation used by Thompson, take some time to think about it. Definitely, not a resume builder for Thompson.

Enough. What in the hell is going on here? this is worse than Terrel Owens, Michael Irvin anything I ever remember. Bribe someone not to play..it's beyond comprehension. I hereby revoke my membership in the Packernation & have ordered my Lions jersey. I want to watch football not as the world turns. What a freezing day in hell.

Thanks Lifelong Yooper, giving up the Packers for the Lions, funniest thing I've read all week. Thanks.  BK

BK... the Lions maybe the laughingstock of the leauge... so were the Packers when I started following the sport. It's not about winning or losing it's about enjoying the sport I love. I want football not As The World Turns. It's a shame this whole thing was handled like a bunch of corrupt politicians were running the show .No worries deep inside I'll always bleed Green & Gold but until these keystone cops are finished in GB so am I. Any man with balls would have resolved this quick & painlessly long ago.

lifelongyooperpackfan

Hey Lifelong Yooper, our good friend Sc8 (Millionth Visitor) is from Detroit, and he said that you won't find any football worth watching coming from the Lions. Thanks for at least not jumping on the Vikqueens bandwagon... and now what, BF is finally reporting to the Pack.  BK

Ryan Grant asks for $40 million: We Hold The Packers Ransom For...

David

Hey David, nice... and simple, it's a good thing he signed for 30 million with at least 8 million guaranteed. But if he was asking for a 100 billion dollars, well he came up a little short...  BK

Why in the hell would BF wanna take 20 or 25 mill over 10 years when he can come ride the bench, hold a clip board. and earn 12 mill in 5 months. and watch TT boy sweat bullets hopin' they'll be playing into the 6th month...oh and anybody seen Justin Harrell in camp yet you know TT's superstar DT...Man Brett can stay sharp for the 09' season runnin the practice squad. can you see it now. Practice squad beats first string in a thriller 23-17...

20 mill ? to stay retired ? Hell, I'll do it for 5 mill..and I'll stay away from practice...this is getting less classy by the day, its even on the Sports news over here..TT and MM, the new Chuckle Brothers...BF has now lost all credence if he accepts this offer..a total joke !!!

The The! Great stuff...

Aaron Nagler

Hey Aaron, I thought it was the day last Wednesday... now it seems tomorrow, Monday the 4th will be "the day your life will surely change" when BF will report to camp, or the Packers trade him, or the Packers release him, or he stays retired. Whichever choice... things will change for all of us Packer Fans. Aaron and Cory's Packer Transplant Podcast is back with Training Camp, and the impending return of some old retired guy. over at Cheesehead TV - give it a listen.  BK

I understand BF's position. But if he ever went to Minnesota to play it would break my heart. Not to blame Brett but I DO NOT like the position that Green Bay and Aaron Rogers are in. I love Brett and I could spend a lifetime explaning why: but I guess I happen to love the Green Bay Packers just a little bit more.
