Speak Out Spew Off... It's The OTA's

As the Packers head into one their Off-Season Team Activities (OTA's) this week, a great place to get caught up is from a post over at Green Bay Press Gazette - Roundup: Follow today's OTA where under the Roster Breakdown section you have the links for each of the positions and a bit of breakdown on the players currently on the roster and which player is competing for what and against who-ever, whatever.

A nice graphic from over at JSOnline's 3-4 Packer defense: At a glance which may help you interpret what each defensive players new responsibilities as far as gaps and directions may be as the Packers, under new defensive coordinator Dom Capers transition from last year's 4-3 defense to the 3-4 alignment. So far, the biggest change is Aaron Kampman standing up to be one of the LB's now. Click on that thumbnail over to the right to get the bigger, easier to read image.

Vikings' great Tarkenton calls Favre's actions despicable
"I think it's despicable," Tarkenton told 790 The Zone in Atlanta (via the Minneapolis Star Tribune) regarding the possibility of Brett Favre playing for the Vikings. "What he put the Packers through last year was not good. Here's an organization that was loyal to him for 17, 18 years, provided stability of organization, provided players. It just wasn't about Brett Favre. In this day and time, we have glorified the Brett Favre's of the world so much, they think it's about them. He goes to New York and bombs. He's 39 years old. How would you like Ray Nitschke in his last year [playing for] the Vikings, or I retire, and go play for the Packers? I kind of hope it happens, so he can fail."

"He told the Packers [after 2008 that], ‘I'm retiring,'" Tarkenton said. "They've got to move on. They've got to go through their offseason plan, their workouts, they go with the other quarterback [Aaron Rodgers], who is a good player, and then [Favre] comes back and says, ‘I think I want to play.' . . . You build your team in the offseason. Everybody knows that. It's about team. It's not about Brett Favre. So he goes and runs up to the Jets, doesn't even dress in the locker room with the players. Has a separate facility. Playing quarterback is about the relationships you have with your coaches, with your players, with your trainers, with your managers. How can you do that if you show up on gameday and you haven't put the time in? And now he's trying to do it again in Minnesota. And if Minnesota bites, God bless them. . . .

"He's been a great player, there's no question about it, but it's all about him. It is supposed to be all about your team. If you're going to be the quarterback of your team, you need to be there in the offseason workouts in March and April. Peyton Manning's there. Tom Brady's there."

"I think [Favre] has been a great flamboyant quarterback, but he has made more stupid plays than any great quarterback that I've ever seen," Tarkenton said. "Look at his final game in a Packers uniform [the 2007 NFC title game]. He blew that game against the Giants. He's playing against Eli Manning. I love Eli Manning, but he's still not a great quarterback. He's not Peyton yet, or Tom Brady. He's just a guy. And [the Packers] are playing at home, and they're in a tight situation, they went to overtime and [Favre] throws the interception that allows [the Giants] to come back and win the game."

More Technical Difficulties...

For that small group of you that recently saw the parking-page when you stopped by this morning and started wondering where the hell we went... well we didn't go anywhere of our own volition. Instead, our host provider, first get out your 10-foot poles if you're planning to touch, Bizland.Com, decided to park our website this morning. Great default choice there guys!!! I loved Bizland for years, but they have done a bunch of crazy shit this year over passwords, new profile settings that default wrong, etc etc etc... that I'm close to jumping ship away from their services.

For additional praise, my thanks goes to the nice young lady at Network Solutions, yes they charge an arm and a leg for PackerPalace.com but they did pick up the phone within 5 minutes, and within 2 minutes I was informed that it was Bizland's issue that was screwing up everything. Difficulties resolved and I didn't even need to go to our on-site IT Guy's help, which is a good thing, because Norbert always drinks the rest of my beer when he's over "helping out" with any computer problems and those last 2 Torpedo Extra IPA's are for me to drink today.

In regards to the picture of the typewriter company Corona's version of a suitcase sized Lugg-able, I guess they called it a Portable Computer. Our office called it Lugg-able. I actually worked on one those things for years, it was dragged around everywhere to client sites, and at the end of it's life you had to tap the hard-drive casing lightly and repeatedly to get the thing to boot-up. World's Greatest Liar... (almost humor)

Pinocchio, Snow White, and Superman are out for a stroll in town one day. As they walked, they come across a sign: "Beauty contest for the most beautiful woman in the world."

"I am entering!" said Snow White. After half an hour she comes out and they ask her, "Well, how'd ya do?" "First Place!" said Snow White.

They continue walking and they see a sign: "Contest for the strongest man in the world."

"I'm entering," says Superman. After half an hour, he returns and they ask him, "How did you make out?" "First Place," answers Superman. "Did you ever doubt?"

They continue walking when they see a sign: "Contest! Who is the greatest liar in the world?" Pinocchio enters.

After half an hour he returns with tears in his eyes. "What happened?" they asked. "I finished 3rd, who in the hell are Brad Childress and Brett Favre?" asked Pinocchio.

**** joking joking just joking and maybe a little harsh on BC and BF... I guess you can't say that talking out of both sides of your mouth and withholding information is technically lying. joking joking just joking. ****

I was going to elaborate some more and make light of this whole what is "BF up to this week™... and I just don't have the energy to even care what he does anymore, blah blah blah. Brett ol' buddy, play if you want to, play for the Vikes if you want to. I'll just leave it at the hi-jacked joke up above and look forward to upcoming offseason workouts and the eventual start of training camp for the Green Bay Packers.

Spew Off Speak Out...

So we finally pushed BeerScout out the door and safely off to his Bigfoot gathering up in Washington, well, it's formally called the "Yakima Bigfoot Round-Up" and with over 300 in attendance, with some of the major players in the Sasquatch World, and with a tribute to Bob Gimlin of the Patterson-Gimlin Film in the plans. I'm sure he'll have one grand time and we look forward to any pictures.... of Bigfoot, but we'll settle for the after conference Party Shots!!!

BF is still dangling us with the same old stuff we went through a thousand times last summer.... really hard to get riled up about anything he does these days. So go ahead and play for the Vikes, if that's what glides your lawn-mower, then let it be...

Brett Favre Mails Arm To Vikings May 14, 2009 | | Onion Sports
HATTIESBURG, MS—Retired quarterback Brett Favre mailed his throwing arm to the Vikings Tuesday, sending the record-setting limb to the team's headquarters for evaluation in hopes of signing with Minnesota. "I made sure to bubble-wrap it, and I stuck a couple big chunks of dry ice in the envelope, so it should be fine," said Favre, who sent the appendage after the Vikings expressed health concerns with the potential signing of the 39-year-old quarterback. "Once the Vikings examine it, I'm sure they'll find that my throwing arm has no structural damage. The doctors who cut it off said it looked great." According to James "Bus" Cook, Favre's agent, the three-time MVP is unlikely to come out of retirement if the Vikings believe that his amputated throwing arm will require major surgery.

Hey Beerkid... As you know I reside near the outskirts of Minneapolis and let me tell you, a lot of Vi-Queen fans want to see Brett in a God Awful Purple uniform, but just as many would rather not see it happen at all. When the news was first circulating about his possible un-retirement #2 (Now for the record, his un-retirement #1 still falls on the shoulders of the "Village Idiot" at 1265 Lombardi Avenue since TT forced Brett into retirement before he was 100% ready)... but I digress.

I like to call this current stage in Brett's prestigious HOF career the "What The Favre" stage. Okay, everyone together… "WHAT THE FAVRE?!" (a.k.a. WTF!) It seems amazing to me that Da-Queens organization are holding onto the hope that OUR (And always will be the PACKERS) number 4 (3xMVP), soon to be 40 year old in October QB will lead them to another Super Bowl.... Loss that is. Brett needs to ask himself, "Self, why don't I just remain retired instead of battling myself back into a long season only to find the team I am a part of SUCKS as does the Head Coach, the stadium (a.k.a. The Humpty Dump) and the fans, and possibly go on to win the NFC Championship but only to lose the Super Bowl?"

Brett will soon find out how the fan base (or lack there of) around here for Da-Queens is piss poor and he will miss the loyalty of our beloved GREEN BAY PACKERS fans (In good times or bad, Loyal to the F'n core)!!

With that said, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I will say for the record that my family and I are still planning on a trip to Canton when Brett is inducted, I will still respect the man, the player and the legend should he decide to step out of retirement and sign with Da-Queens and I will thank God everyday that it's only Da-Queens as the team in question, and not Da-Bears. GO PACK GO and Brett please remain on your rider mower and enjoy your first of many "off seasons" with your family.

See you in Canton Amigo!

I'm not sure how applicable this is but there seems to be all this debate over Brett and if he's doing the right thing and why I should or should not condemn him for what he's doing. Personally, it's this simple for me: Brett played in GB effectively forever. Near the end, things got crappy for him with management. (Never the fans, as I recall.) Judging by his actual late-season stats recently, it's looking more and more like TT might have been right about him as a player. (Gulp!) But then there's the issue of how I'm supposed to "feel", as a Packer (and a Brett Favre) fan. Briefly, I'm upset. His actions might not be patently wrong and he might be well within his legal rights to do whatever he wants, but the fact remains that it sucks. There are many things I can legally do to people to make them not like me, and that's what Brett appears to be doing.

That said, it's his choice. Likewise, it's my choice to feel betrayed and a bit pissed. I know the BF apologists will tell me how TT treated him unfairly - but I just don't care. He has millions upon millions of dollars that our fandom paid him to help heal his hurt feelings. His fans did nothing to hurt him. In fact, there were factions of us trying in vain to get him back to Green Bay. However, by these actions, it's us who are made to pay. It seems sometimes the problem is that people are so concerned about if they are "allowed" to do something that they rarely stop to think if they "should".

WOW,   Maybe I am over estimating the Packers, but last year seems to be an annomally compared to the NFC Championship run in 07. Raji immediately upgrades the D-line and will make everyone better including Jenkins. With Harrel and Jolly playnig ends this D-line has the makings to very good for many years. This new defense should allow Barnett,Hawk to become better playmakers. Remeber we only lost four games by less than 4 pts and two in OT, with the injuries last year and hard schedule it is easy to see why 6-10 was the result. With this years schedule there is no reason to get off to a 8-0 record. I may be Ted Thompsons only fan on the planet, He doesnt spend carelessly in FA, rather he saves the $$ to sign our own valuable players, i.e. Greg Jennings and Nick Collins. His drafts have been great!!! this years draft especially. The only regrets I have are two. 1. Releaseing the punter Ryan one week before the opener(cost us valuable field position in several games) and 2. Letting Tracy White LB go and watch our special teams desinergrate, I never did like Mike Stock anyhow. This team is primed to be a great team. We could of had Alex Smith(who?) QB instead of Rogers. As far as Favre goes, let him go to the Vikqueens, I know its business but Favre cant seem to ride into the sunset. I think his shoulder is toast, and he will ultimatlely embarass himself by trying to play again. Dont get me wrong, I love Favre the GB Favre, my mancave is totally dedicated to him, however enough is enough. I would have took the 20 million from the Packers to stand on the sidelines and in the pressbox and do PR things the Packers wanted him to do. I am very disappointed that most publications have the Packers finishing third behind Minnesota and Chicago. I think they are a Playoff team, with the easy schedule and some luck we could go 11-5 this year.
Go pack Go!!!!!!!

First of all I wanna say that this whole Favre saga is annoying me. I understand his motives for wanting to play for the Queens, but I feel he should move on from his anger at the Packer organization. In my opinion his better move would be to stay retired and vow to never show his face in Wisconsin ever again especially after TT is gone. Or go to work with any division rival as a coach or in the front office. It would be weird cheering for the slaying of Favre when they take on the Green and Gold and partly feeling like you are giving Thompson the satisfaction. But he would be for the hated Purple.

As for the new 3-4 for defense. I think it is a brilliant move. Granted there will be some growing pains the first year or two but over all it is a step in the right direction. That style of defense in my opinion is way more intimidating that the 4-3.

Speak Out Spew Off...

I don't care what anyone says, including Brett Faver, Brett Favre NEVER wanted to play for the purple chickens. He ONLY wanted to prove Ted "I wish I had long blond hair" wrong about "not rebuilding." And I STILL think Craig Nall was better than ARog.

I find it interesting that those who supposedly were great Favre fans when he was an active player on the Packer roster now condemn this future Hall of Famer for wanting to keep playing football. It seems Favre is the one player who has no right to continue playing after his time with Green Bay. I hope we hold every player, coach, and GM, to the same standard when they are fired from the Packers.

Favre is and always has been a competitor. Love him or hate him he gave you every thing he had. Many of you would take a week or two off when any death or illness took place in your family, yet this guy would go out and play when his dad died, his wife had breast cancer, etc… You would have a cough or cold and hang up the suit or work boots for a day or two. How many times did Favre play injured for the Packers??? I don’t know what you are all so offended or afraid of. Let him move on with his life and you get on with your “True Packer Fan Status”.

I wish they would have let him go to the team of his choice last year. The fear “True Packer Fans” have of this old quarterback is astounding. At the end of the day, the Packers fired Brett Favre (Yea,fired) use your energy to support the current team.

Dave B - You are right on target.

Wait a minute... You people sit here and say that Brett Favre is a vindictive baby for wanting to get back at Thompson and the Packers. And two sentences later you want the new and, even though we haven't seen them play at all, awesome defense hurt Brett Favre. Is there not a double standard here? I very wisely am not getting caught up in all of this crap. If he goes to Minnesota, so be it. Aren't we Packer fans? Aren't we supposed Title Town, USA? Let's get our focus on the fact that we fielded a team last year that sucked. Maybe Teddy Boy fixed it, maybe not. But arguing about Favre doesn't help, it's pointless. I'm also a Packer fan first. I'm just really sick of all of all the bs that surrounds the entire situation. I don't like Ted Thompson, but I base my hatred of him on other things then the Brett Favre saga. We should not of been a 6-10 team last year. We were coming off a great year where we nearly made it all the way to the Super Bowl. I think the switch to the 3-4 defense is really risky. Clay Matthews is untested and we will be counting on him for a lot. I don't really like that we have so much based on a rookie. And Aaron Kampman is one of the best defensive end in the league, and I don't know how wise it is moving him to outside backer. This new defense looks really boom or bust to me. It could really take off and be a solid unit, or it could totally fail. I blame Ted Thompson for the 6-10 record as I should. He didn't get the players we needed to win. Every draft with him thus far has been an adventure. But the Pack is the Pack, and you can't help but want them to win it all. The big question is when is this drama shit going to end?

A Public Service Announcement...

Spew Off Speak Out...

I've waited a few extra days to see how this was going to play out... Brett Favre going to the Vikqueens or not... and for now, he's not. Allegedly.

Further analysis reveals a few things...
  • BF won't sign a contract now because he wants the summer off like last year, he doesn't want to report to any team's camp until late July at the earliest.

  • I would think that BF and Vikqueens coach Brad Chidlress could hash out whatever they had on their minds over the phone... why would the personal visit even be necessary at this point.

  • BF likes yanking the chain of the Packers organization, specifically GM Ted Thompson who wouldn't hire BF's favorite coach, favorite WR, and not defending BF over the stupid cell-phone conspiracy charges that some writer in Milwaukee fabricated.

  • If BF was serious about playing this year, he would have stayed with the NY Jets, instead he asked for his release several times before it was granted.
It's all bull-shit at this point... but expect the brouhaha to settle down, and then expect BF to purposely stoke it again over and over... that's why I want the Packers Defense to be involved in putting some serious hurt on our beloved Brett Favre, the QB from Hell.

Update:  For those of you who are waiting for BF to take you to the promised land... check out his stats for the last 5 games of each year. This is from Vikings Now/Twincities.Com - Vikings better off without Favre?
  • 2005 (Packers went 2-3) 1 TD, 10 INTs
  • 2006 (Packers went 4-1) 4 TDs, 8 INTs
  • 2007 (Packers went 3-2) 6 TDs, 7 INTs
  • 2008 (NY Jets went 1-4) 2 TDs, 9 INTs
Ouch! That's 13 TD's to go with 34 INT's for a 10-10 record.

Hey Dave B, double standards??? BF set the rules by quitting on the team last year... I'm a Packers fan first, and if BF is allegedly playing mental games and throwing ill-will at TT and the Packers front office, then he's throwing that at me too... Yes, BF is last year's news, but if he is joining the Vikes, then he is this year's news too.  BK

The sad part is we aren't done talking about this saga until AT LEAST early to mid September... P.S. Nice free agent signings... 4 players that actually have a chance to make the team... GO PACK!!

If he wants to play let him play, if wants to pad his career INT record and create his own section in the HOF for Sacked and Intercepted by all 32 teams... more power to him. Oh and measuring BF's accomplishments, by your standards... he's done squat for over 10 years now. And by serious hurt, I mean out of the game, not death and dismemberment.. sheesh!!!   BK - Packer Fan For Life!

I hope Dom Capers and Kevin Greene have started to get a special game plan together for the ViQueens just in case BF goes purple. I would like to see something similar to the 46 defense, but maybe rush eight and let the outside linebackers drop back to cover the quick slants. I hope the Packers have forgotten about any retirement of #4. I don't remember who said it, but I agree that #4 should go to the last guy drafted every year.

I don't know about you guys, but an off-season without Favre-Watch is like a day without sunshine. It has been reported that X-Rays of BF were sent to the Vikings medical gurus, and if they pass muster he will be signed. A torn biceps is a soft tissue injury that in my understanding can be best viewed with an MRI or a Cat Scan, unless tendon separation at the bone can be seen. X- Rays? I stayed at a Holiday Inn.

Don't you think it is about time that every sports media outlet have a gossip columnist desk? At least they could maintain an ounce of integrity instead of trying to pass this spew off as journalism.

Jim

Hey Jim, I heard somewhere that Elway had this problem, it hurts when tore, but if completely separated as in Elway's case during one his SB years, you can play and throw without any pain.  BK

This proves one thing.... Brett was telling the truth about still wanting to play in Green Bay and T.T. pushed him out. How well does that sit with ALL Packer fans?

JONNY C

Hey Jonny C, right.... BF always wanted to play for the Pack, perhaps, we do know for sure that he wanted to take 5 months off during the summer... read the Quoth Lombardi quote at the bottom of this post... that doesn't describe BF anymore, BF said that winning during that 13-3 season was hard work, it wasn't fun... BF wants to play the game of football, he doesn't want to participate in anything else, the prepwork, the practice time... does New York even remember he was there last year?  BK

Go ahead Favre, Starr would have never pulled this kind of vendetta shit, you fucken baby. Its about the Packers and being a Packer. Do retire #4, give to our next punter.

I thought when the packers agreed to release Favre they added a clause so that he couldn't be traded to an NFC north team. Please take the #4 (selfish trader)off the website. Favre has no gratitude for the all the support Packer fans gave him over the years. Even through all of his bone stupid game losing passes like the one against the '9ers for the NFC title. He's nothing but a crybaby.. f#@k him...Let the Vikes waste another year finding a quarterback. It'll only postpone them needing an experience QB next year, just as the Jets are now. I called it back then too, by the way.

He released Ahman Green at the right time as well as KGB and Mckenzie. The Pack is setting good cap wise. He finds diamonds in the rough like Jennings, Bigby, Donald Lee, etc. Two years ago we were the youngest team and in the NFC championship game. Our draft this year is ranked one of the best. Good job TT.

Hey BeerKid........... Me thinks TT/MM have showed their hands. Seems they've noticed, the same as everyone watching last year has, where improvement is needed. OL is going bigger as is FB (the new guy will start) with more power blocking w/some zone. I think they can do it with the bigger guys and start practicing 3&1 plays other than QB sneak. Spitz will have the center spot and Lang or Merdith will have the RT spot if Tausch isn't back. Sitton at RG. We'll see more of B. Jackson running the ball this year also. Grant has to make people miss and run through tackles if he's going to be special. DL has a good rotation again, if Harrell has been concentrating on nothing but the back all off season he can be a factor in it. He fits the big body 3-4 defense that they need now. Mathews ROLB and Kamp at LOLB, Hawk and Barnett (hope he's practiced his tackling) in the middle with Harris and Woodson at CB w/Collins and Bigby at S. Collins is a bit scary... when they want that big contract after one good year you just don't know why. I think the new D coaching staff is good for a win or two more this year. K. Greene can't help but rub off on the players a bit, I'd think. I'm guessing it's better than 50/50 that Favre signs on w/the Vikes. Walking out in a purple uniform will kinda ruin alot of memories of him for Packer fans.

Long Live the Pack!!!

Just when we start getting on with our lives after Favre, he is back on the front page in PackerWorld. I am not sure that I believe the "leaker" who is putting this story out, but I think it would be foolish for Favre to destroy his legacy with the Packers by going to the Vikes. He might not like Thompson and McCarthy, but it is hard to imagine that he has ill feelings for those fans who bought his books, his clothing, his photos, his DVDs, and supported the companies that sponsored him. We visited Kiln and went to the Broke Spoke. We bought every magazine that put him on the cover. We made him rich. I think he likes the fans and would not do anything to change that further. Just me, but I think that Childress is playing along because he loves jabbing others. Look at how he did the "in your face" dance about his draft pick.

Speak Out Spew Off...

The New York Jets release their retired 2008 Pro Bowl QB* and the speculation from all of us football analysts is that he's coming back. He's coming BAAAAAACK!!!!

OMG!!!! He's joining the VIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKES!!!

Maybe... but all my previous animosity aside towards all sides in this former matter... I just wanted to say I'm hoisting a frosted cold beer in BF's direction, "here's to you No. 4", because I for one, want your arm injury to heal and your personal trainer to get you back into shape so you can make the proper decision... about playing another year in the NFL for the team of your choice.

Get on that plane from Hattiesburg to Minneapolis and Please Please Pretty Please, choose the Vikqueens...

BeerKid - I Want To Be, In Anarchy!

*** With 22TD's and 22INT's the AFC apparently has different standards for their pro-bowl QB's then the NFC does...  BK

He's not going to the Queenies. I'd love for someone to point out a quote of him saying he wanted to play for the Vikings last year. Everyone keeps saying that by talking to their coaches he implied it. I'm not so sure. He could have asked them anything. I don't remember Favre ever commenting directly that he WANTED to play for the Queens. And I just don't see it happening this year. All the Favre haters are just looking or more fuel to pour on the dying embers. Now, Michael Vick I can see being a perfect fit in MiniCrapPaulis!

C'mon BeerScout... here's an article from when he was in GB but the Pack wouldn't let him report as they tried to trade him:Go read the damn article and either change your argument to "TT Drove BF to request a trade to the Vikes" or drop the subject. There was almost no mention of Chicago last summer, and the only rumors of the Lions were when BF started giving them our plays and tendencies to Matt Millen later on. BF wanted to play for the Vikes, a long-time rival with QB needs, it had his long-time "friends" in Bevel and Childress (if you believe BF has been calling them multiple times every summer since '94) OR otherwise we wouldn't have had that whole tampering mess with Minnesota, remember, it was unprecedented for the NFL Commish to step in and publicly tell a team to specifically deal with a player's wishes instead of the team telling the player under contract to report to camp (off-season camps, and then training camp as backup QB). BF wanted to play for the Vikings... he gave many reasons that went across the spectrum from being "super-competitive" to being an "a-hole". I want our Packers D to have some shots at him this year... but I'm worried if he joins the Vikes he'll be out injured before the Monday night game against them on October 5th.

You're not supposed to kick a sleeping dawg... so why are we talking about this again??? Oh yeah, I brought it up... sorry.

Yes, but annoyingly not a direct quote by Favre...not sure how to read that. Is the reporter adding that, implying it, or did Favre say it? I'm not saying he didn't, but it's not a quote exactly.

...and BF loves TT!!!! It's true!!! Has to be...There's no direct quote to suggest that he doesn't.

BeerKid - Still Pack For Life!!!

I personally think it would be hilarious to see Favre come back and play for the queens. In the sense that it would embarrass TT so bad!

JONNY C

Hey Jonny - we agree, I want BF to play in Minnesota too... only I think he would embarrass himself... but he's welcome to keep playing. You always to wonder what would have happened if BF had never quit that 1st time... he was the starting QB of the GBP going into off-season camps coming off a 13-3 year. There were no questions about that, and he quits... he should have just kept his mouth shut and participated lightly in every off-season camp. Some day I should really vent on the subject and annoy the hell out of everyone by putting up a 10,000 word rant as the only post for a month. What BF and his agent did to the Packers last year is almost a step-by-step manual on how to get released from your team. Hell, the same agent, Bus Cook did it this year to the Broncos with Cutler. Wake up!!! It's OK to be pissed at everything because BF quit on the Packers.... just quit blaming everyone else and get over it.  BK

Can the Packers continually unretire Favre's number, too?

Elihu

Hey Elihu, yes, the Packers could do anything they wanted to with any number... you can re-tire a number and re-use it at the same time... and then dealing with any potential back-lash that would result if they did something stupid. When Reggie White retired, the Packers didn't retire his number, although GM Ron Wolf said that no player would ever wear 92 while he was in charge... GM Mike Sherman echoed that commitment... finally officially retired in September 2005. I think the funniest thing I read last year about no. 4, was that if the Packers really, really wanted to stick-it back to BF, they would assign no. 4 to the rookie street free-agent WR that shows up 12th on the camp depth charts, thus guaranteeing that no. 4 would be cut every year.  No player will be assigned no. 4 in Green Bay ever again... BF rode that number into permanent retirement. BK
______________________________

My favorite draft pick - None of them. It's the free agent signing of wide receiver Jamarko Simmons. Here's what the young man told the Milwaukee JS on 4/27:
"My agent said six wanted to sign me," Simmons said. "I took Green Bay because I would be able to be with my mentor, Greg Jennings. Also, I'd have a chance to play on the most storied franchise and field in NFL history. I've always dreamed about doing a Lambeau Leap and my family wearing Cheeseheads. Just being a part of that is unforgettable."
If these statements are accurate, it's great, love it. We need this kind of enthusiasm to go with Kevin Greene... Go Pack, Go!

(sunday 10am) Norbert, our on-site Technical Administrator said that something was going on over at our ISP where we couldn't upload files due to an erroneous "device out of space" error and yet, we still could somehow manage to change and damage the existing files already there... anyway, for those of you who saw some of the 2 hours of carnage (and we know that 202 visitors stopped by, 90 were surely us trying to troubleshoot, so that leaves 112 to be...) and eventually saw the 2009 Schedule that Norbert renamed to be the home page for awhile... well, we could do little else.

Finally, Sharon, one of our off-site IT Administrators contacted us to give us the "all is well" signal and with a quick republish, we were able to refresh the damaged pages and everything seems to be A.O.K. for now. Well, except we lost the last 2 weeks of statistics, so if all of you, could respend your visits and time and reduplicate the last 2 weeks. Norbert assures that would be of tremendous help in getting Packer Palace back on course to tracking down the eventual 2 millionth visitor for an award. Otherwise, it's going to be an guess-timate on which visitor is going to be the lucky winner, sort of like what happened with the 1 millionth visitor award we handed out.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and for their assistance...

Dammit Jim, can't you see we're trying to talk about BF this week, and not how bad the Detroit Lions are... "Culpepper looks great! Hey BeerKid............. Some things never change. It's spring and here we are with the "will he-won't he" again. Maybe, big maybe, Favre can stick it to TT, but the Pack can stick it to him also. They don't have to put his number up. And as a Packer defense, they'd have to take it a little personal cause Favre would be sticking it to them also. Be hard to imagine them not bringing their absolute best game for those two. I think the draft worked out pretty well!!!

Long Live the Pack!!!

Hey LLtP, yes, it would be fun to watch the Packer D knock BF down, oh they'd offer him a hand to get back up, and then knock it him down again the next play, repeat repeatedly....  BK

Camp, The Packers may be young but they already have lots of experience. Hey ScottS, any LB they took they were going to mold in Kevin Greene's image... I still love his quote "Any LB I coach isn't going to be some finesse rusher from the end, he's going to be a tough-guy we can use anywhere" that quote is probably paraphrased a bit... you have to love the attitude.  BK
